I.
Preparation before installation |
Before the initial installation, user should know how
to install NetDefender and have some
general knowledge about networking. This
will allow NetDefender to work
efficiently and correctly.
Currently there are different types of intranet
structures, and each structure will vary
on how the users browse the internet.
Our category list is clarified for users
to reference for installation base on
the network status.
Now, NetDefender supports Software routing mode. After
enabling this function, the system can
monitor the whole network without an
additional HUB or a mirror switch; also
this can carry out the block on all the
UDP communications. Please see Part II
Hosts Management for the detail setting.
HUB and Switch
HUB: A hub contains
multiple ports. When a package arrives
at one port, it is copied to the other
ports so that all segments of the LAN
can see all packages.
Mirror Switch: When
a package arrives at one port, it is
only copied to a special port, other
else ports can not get the package.
Mirror the port connecting to the
internet to a special port (the special
port is used for data backup and network
management), then connect the computer
with NetDefender System installed to
this special port to receive packages.
But the special port in some of switches
is single-direction, it can not send
packages. To resolve this problem,
please add an extra network adapter in
the computer, and connect the adapter to
a both-directions port of the switch. (
These 3 ports should be in the same IP
Scope.)
Un-mirror Switch:
When a package arrives at one port, it
is only copied to a special port, other
else ports can not get the package, and
it is without a mirror port.
Criterion: the
computer with NetDefender installed must
be able to receive all the packages from
the monitored computers, and it should
be able to send packages to the
monitored computers. |

Install NetDefender
After the user has determined the
network structure, user also needs to
add two tool packages for the host with
NetDefender System:
Users can download Network Data Capture Driver - WINPACAP 3.0
from our website:
http://www.hopesen.com/en/freedown.asp.
IIS: It is used for monitoring log tracking. User can install
this from the OS CD, or download it from
our website: http://www.hopesen.com/en/freedown.asp.
User can install the IIS reference to
the network content in our website, or
other reference articles.
After these tool packages are installed, user can start
installing NetDefender System. |

Structure I. Connect an proxy server
to Internet

a.The proxy
server is with Windows OS

b. The proxy
server is with Linux OS and connecting
to a HUB

c. The proxy
server is with Linux OS and connecting
to a switch
Structure II: Connect a Router to
internet

a.The monitored
computers are connected to a HUB, and
the HUB is connecting to a router.

b.The monitored
computer is connected to a mirror
switch, and the switch is connecting to
a router.

c.The monitored
computer is connected to a un-mirror
switch, and the switch is connecting to
a router. |

IV.
Quick Start Wizard |
Quick Start Wizard is
the same as III. Product Debug. But this
wizard is easier to be used or be
learned for a novice user.
If a monitoring network adapter has not
been configured, Quick Start Wizard will
start to run automatically with the main
program starting.
There are 3 steps of the wizard.
1. Set monitoring network adapter
Select a network adapter (usually the
one connecting to the internet) that can
receive data packages from computers in
the intranet, then click next, the
wizard will detect the information of
the card, as if gateway, IP scope, etc.
2. Search for host computers
If user has clicked the Search
button, all the host computers are
detected and listed quickly. After the
searching action is finished. Click Next
button to next step. The default
strategy of the system will function on
detected computers.
3. Start monitoring service automatically
Click the Finished button, the wizard
will start the monitoring service
automatically, and also open on-spot
view window, and the NetDefender
website. The procedure takes about 3
minutes. After NetDefender website has
been opened, user will be able to view
the contents of website in on-spot view
window.
If you have been able to view contents in on-spot view
window, you can jump to III. View
monitoring effects and logs in product
debug. |

Setting(Debugging) |
Monitoring
Network Adapter Setting
Run NetAction.exe, go into System Setting-> Binding Card, and
select a network adapter for monitoring.
If there are more than one networks card
installed, user has to select the right
card for monitoring, otherwise the
system will not function properly. The
selected network card has to be in the
intranet IP Scope.
If your network is configured in a
single-direction port mirror switch,
please designate a network adapter for
blocking, otherwise the blocking service
will fail. Blocking and Monitoring must
be on two separate network cards, and
both cards can browse the intranet.

If no network card information is
displayed in Network Adapter list, the
WINPCAP Package might be installed
incorrectly. Download and reinstall
WINPCAP 3.0.
If reinstalling the WINPCAP drivers did
not resolve the issue then check if the
network adapter is correctly installed.
User can open Network Neighbor
properties, validate the installed
TCP/IP protocol. If it is installed
incorrectly, user should uninstall the
network card driver, then reinstall it
and TCP/IP protocol, also reinstall
WINPCAP package.
User can select based on IP Address mode
or based on MAC address model for the
selected monitoring network card. After
it is set, click Monitor button. These
setting will take effect when the
monitoring service is restarted. After
the monitoring network card is set, the
gateway and IP Scope will be set
automatically for it.
The monitor effects of different
monitoring modes are not the same. If
user set the monitoring service based on
IP Address, all the data packages will
be monitored and blocked by comparing
with IP Addresses. If user set the
monitoring service based on MAC Address,
all the data packages will be monitored
and blocked by comparing with MAC
Addresses.
Set Gateway & IP Scope
Set the gateway connecting to internet and the current IP
Scope, reference to the network
environment of the user.
The gateway connecting to internet can
not be monitored, and all the data
packages will get across it
automatically.
The intranet IP Scope is used in host
searching.

Hosts Search
The system is able to automatically search for all the host
computers in intranet. Before searching,
please set the IP Scope for searching.

Set Monitoring Strategy
The system while have a default monitoring strategy, users
will need to apply this strategy to a
certain host computer (select a host,
then click Save strategy button). This
can test the monitoring strategy effect.

|
VI.Check
Monitoring Effect |
Open the On-Spot
View window in the monitoring host
computer and enter a URL in the browser
setting. User can track all the browser
internet information in this window
(including URL and Titles).
NetDefender System should now be
installed successfully and is working
correctly. User can also do some other
blocking and monitoring setting to test
the effects |

| When
http://localhost, or http://IP, or
http://domainname is entered in the IE
Browser, users can see the login page in
NetDefender log management system. The
default username and password is

Maintenance ->User Management in the
main program to set or add new users. |
